Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

“The Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) provides us with a memorable contrast as we consider “the prayers of all saints” which are “before the throne” of God. We have previously studied Revelation 6:15-17, in which the unbelievers on earth pray not to God but to “the mountains and rooks,” begging these inanimate objects to “fall” on them. Such is the illogic of unbelief and the absurdity of idolatry. Tragic are their benighted bleatings, for forgiveness is readily available to anyone who cries out to Jesus. Completely different is the simple, sincere, and serene supplication of John: “Even so, come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20b). This calm confidence of the Apostle assures us that our prayers are somehow part of God’s eternal plan, including the return of God the Son, Jesus Christ.
