Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Because Jesus is rich, He offers His eternal wealth to all people. We have been studying Ephesians 3:8, where Paul states, “Unto me, who am less than the least of all saints, is this grace given, that I should preach among the Gentiles [non-Jewish people] the unsearchable riches of Christ.” We must not isolate this one verse and conclude that these riches are unavailable to non-Gentiles. Paul himself was Jewish, and he always preached to his fellow Jews first (Romans 1:16). The early church was dominantly Jewish, Jewish people have been added to the Church throughout the ensuing centuries, and one day “all Israel shall be saved” (Romans 11:26). Elsewhere, Paul wrote, “There is neither Jew nor Greek [Gentile], there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ.” Thus, the “unsearchable riches of Christ” are freely available to all. We must be “in Christ”; that is, each one of us must receive the gift of salvation that He offers – a gift that is most certainly unsearchably rich.
