Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Jesus never stops working on our behalf, never ceases His work of salvation, and is never distracted from even the minutest aspects of our lives. Since we are created in God’s image (Genesis 1:26-27), we know that we have the capacity for meaningful labor. Certainly we cannot compare our work to His, but we are created with the ability to work effectively. Remember, even before Adam and Eve sinned, they were working (Genesis 2:15, 18). After they sinned, their labor grew laborious, but work itself is a gift from God. When we are working, we are following His example, and we know that He cares about both the sense of accomplishment and the frustrations of sore muscles and stubborn machinery. II Corinthians 4:17 reminds us of our work (especially our spiritual labor) that “our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of God.” Jesus cares now and will never stop caring about our lives, including the work that we do.
