Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

We have studied Revelation 19 in detail. Now, as I sometimes like to do, I want to spend a bit more time drawing some larger principles from this chapter. The entire passage is overwhelming. Often, we speak of overwhelming sorrow or hardships. Jesus, though, is overwhelming in the most positive sense possible. In verses 1-6, we find that Jesus is overwhelming in the praise due Him. We praise others here on earth, and this edifying encouragement is a good thing, a necessity in a negative world. In heaven, all of “His servants” (verse 5) join in praise of Jesus; both the angels and the redeemed are united in praising our Savior God. There will be no need to praise men or angels in heaven, for we will no longer be living in a sin-cursed world. It is deeply humbling to note, though, that Jesus in His goodness and kindness will praise us for merely doing now what we should be doing. “Well done,” He will say to each “good and faithful servant” (Matthew 25:21, 23). One of the good and right things that we can do right now is to join with other believers in praising Jesus. Such worship is more than a rehearsal for heaven, but it is that as well.
