Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Our “adversary the devil” (I Peter 5:8) and the demons are always offensive and on the offensive (Revelation 9). We need “the whole armour of God” to “be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (Ephesians 6:11). We specifically need to “take the helmet of salvation” (Ephesians 6:17) to combat the wicked weapon of discouragement. Satan will attack our families (as we studied yesterday); he will further seek to discourage us regarding our health (Job is a good example of both). It is certainly plausible that each one of us could better serve our Lord Jesus if we had better health. However, we do suffer pain and illness to varying degrees, and age impacts Christians as well as non-Christians (Matthew 5:45). Satan will suggest that our faith is weak and ineffectual and that we are being punished with declining health and vigor. Sadly, some benighted Christians will swaggeringly state the same Satanic nonsense. “The helmet of salvation” protects us from this heresy and brings to mind II Corinthians 12:9: “And He said unto me, ‘My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness.’ Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” Let us fend off Satan’s words of doubt and instead stand strong in God’s grace and glory.
