Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Part of “the unsearchable riches of Christ” (Ephesians 3:8), of “the riches of His glory” (Ephesians 3:16), is His love. Yes, “God is love” (I John 4:8, 16), and thus we are embraced by God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit. Through faith in Jesus, we enter into the fullness of this love. I John 4:9 clarifies that this love is more than an emotion: “In this was manifested [demonstrated] the love of God toward us, because that God sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.” Verse 10 adds, “herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the propitiation [atoning sacrifice] for our sins.” Thus, we understand that genuine love must be shown, not merely said. We cannot doubt the love of God, for it is consistent with His Triune nature and has been powerfully exhibited through the tangible work of Jesus’ death on the Cross for us. Jesus is rich in His love to us, unsearchably rich. May we show Him love, and may we find ways to demonstrate that love to each other.
