Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Rather remarkably, Jesus offers thanks for opening our lives to His goodness, as we studied yesterday from Matthew 15:32-38. Furthermore, he gives thanks for opening our minds to His truth. In Luke 10:21-22, Jesus is thankful that we can understand spiritual truth: “In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, ‘I thank Thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that Thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in Thy sight. All things are delivered to Me of My Father: and no man knoweth Who the Son is, but the Father; and Who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal Him.’ “ Thus, Jesus reveals the truth to us and is thankful that we understand His revelation. In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life; no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me.” The most important truth is that Jesus is the Truth Himself, revealing everything that we need to know about God and the salvation that He freely offers to us. If we know Jesus as Savior, then, we understand the greatest, the most profound truth in the universe. Because Jesus gives thanks for our understanding of spiritual truth even as He unfolds that truth, we must express our gratitude for the salvation of others and for our own salvation. “Let the redeemed of the LORD say so” (Psalm 107:2a).
