Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Yesterday, we saw that Jesus never stops His work of salvation. In fact, the harmony of the working relationships within the Trinity assures us that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit labor to lead us to a saving faith. We looked at John 6:44 where Jesus, God the Son, said that God the Father must “draw” us to this eternal relationship. John 16:13-15 make it clear that God the Holy Spirit is actively involved in attracting us to the truth about Jesus and the salvation that is available through trust in Him. Verse 13 says that “the Spirit of truth” must “guide you into all truth.” Jesus promised in Matthew 16:18, “I will build My church.” He will build His church – His people – “until the fullness of the Gentiles be come in” (Romans 11:25), until no more want to be saved. Even then, though, the saving work of Jesus will not stop, for He will never let us go. Jesus never stops loving us in eternity. In that glorious sense, Jesus never stops His work of salvation.
