Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

In Luke 12:54-56, Jesus continues to demonstrate that He both joins and divides, based upon our response to His goodness. He uses the example of weather in the land of Israel: clouds out of the west (from the Mediterranean Sea) meant rain, and a south wind blowing from the desert meant heat and possibly storms. These clear signs were well-known; just as well- known should have been the spiritual warnings that God had provided for centuries in His Word and that God the Son was now providing in person. Each one of us needs to “discern this time” (verse 56), this time of spiritual crisis that was leading to the death of Jesus on the Cross – a death that paid the terrible price for  our sins. Each one of us must be certain through faith in Jesus that we stand with Him at “this time” right now and thus in the time predicted to come.
