Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Because Jesus fills our lives with His fullness, He fills our lives with good things. Truly He “giveth us richly all things to enjoy” (I Timothy 6:17). One of these things is His love. Ephesians 3:14-19 records the fervent prayer of Paul for fellow believers, desiring that we might “know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God” (verse 19). Any love that is in us originates in the Triune Godhead; without God loving us and placing His love in us, we cannot respond to Him in love nor love others (I John 4:19-21). Think of the horror – yes, the horror! – of not being able to love! Now, through Christ Jesus, that capacity to love is expanded because we are “filled with all the fulness of God.” One result of this fuller love is greater harmony amongst believers: Ephesians 4:19 says, “Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, into a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ.” Lord, may Your love become full in us, and may we demonstrate this love specifically by “endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace” (Ephesians 4:3).
