Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Before we move on from Revelation 6, let us consider this application: the authority of Jesus Christ provides perspective on what is really important in life. Some think that power is the goal of this life. However, the powerful have no power against the judgment of God: “the kings of the earth, and the great men, … and the chief captains and the mighty men” (verse 15) try to hide from the righteous justice of Jesus. Many think that wealth is the most crucial aspect of life. However, what do “the rich men” (verse 15) want in those terrible days of the Tribulation? A hole in the ground (verse 15 – “dens”)! Since power and possessions have no value then (and not much now), what does matter? To “be able to stand” in “the great day of His wrath” (verse 17). “The wrath of the lamb” (verse 16) is coming, but each believer will stand (and fall down in worship) before “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world” (Revelation 13:8). Thank You, Lord, for this eternal perspective that You provide for us.
