Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
The “new song” of Revelation 5:9 rejoices in the glory of Jesus Christ: “Thou art worthy.” Why is music so important in worship? First, it is a creation of God and, if used appropriately, is a good thing. Second, songs require concentration and focus as we connect stirring music and meaningful lyrics. Third, music requires practice and discipline, both important to our development in all areas of life. Fourth, good music necessitates creativity and as such reflects the nature of God. Fifth, songs help us to remember important truths about God; that principle also explains why we sang our ABC’s as small children! Sixth, when we sing in our worship services, we are mirroring (imperfectly, I am sure) heavenly worship. All of these reasons (and others) should encourage us to continue to sing “a new song” to our Savior God.
