Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Yesterday, we considered the hope of grace as presented in Colossians 1:3-6. Jesus gives (that is what grace is), and He gives His people hope. Colossians 1:23 adds to the hope of grace with “the hope of the Gospel.” The Gospel was specifically referenced in verse 5: “Ye heard before in the word of the truth of the Gospel.” This emphasis on the good – no, great! – news of our salvation through faith in God the Son, Jesus Christ, reminds us that this salvation is the greatest certainty possible in this uncertain world. We can indeed “continue in the faith grounded and settled.” May we reflect on the surety that is found in Jesus, and may we “be not moved away from the hope of the Gospel.”
