Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
“Blessed and holy is he that hath part in the first resurrection: on such the second death hath no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.” This beatitude is found in Revelation 20:6. I often point out that when our Savior God does something, there is always more. This verse focuses on the fact of eternal life in heaven, for “the second death” (everlasting separation from God) “hath no power” on believers. If we knew nothing beyond the truth of our rescue from hell, we would be overwhelmingly blessed. However, we are provided with the assurance of eternity in the immediate presence of our Lord. Furthermore, we are given valuable work to do as heavenly “priests.” Moreover, we are granted the important role of reigning “with Him.” Blessing upon blessing – this is the picture that this one verse presents to all of God’s people.
