Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
As we continue to compare and contrast Genesis and Revelation, we come to the subject of death. Adam’s sin brought about the curse, which inevitably includes death: “In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return” (Genesis 3:19). This is the beginning of death in the human race. Adam and Eve did not die immediately, but they suffered the murder of their son Abel before their lengthy lives came to an end. Remember, we are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27), Who is eternal. Thus, physical death for us was not part of God’s perfect will. The present presence of death will be reversed in eternity: “There shall be no more death” (Revelation 21:4b). This blessed absence, though, was procured in the worst imaginable but only possible way – through the death of God the Son, Jesus Christ. He has broken the power of both physical and spiritual death, offering us everlasting life with Him in heaven. Through faith, may each one of us hasten into His living, loving embrace.
