Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

“’I am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending,’ saith the Lord, ‘[Who] is, and [Who] was, and [Who] is to come, the Almighty.’” (Revelation 1:8); these words of Jesus speak to His eternality. He has always existed, as confirmed by Genesis 1:1 and John 1:1-3. Colossians 1:16 adds, “For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him.” We briefly considered the “invisible” things yesterday; today, let us consider the “visible.” You have probably heard the unintelligent, inane question, “What came first, the chicken or the egg?” The answer is, of course, Jesus! He is the Creator of the chicken, and He made the chicken capable of producing the egg (and the rooster capable of fertilizing it). The irrefutable concept of irreducible complexity confirms that an organism must be complete in order to be able to survive for even a nanosecond. The information that is necessary for even a single-celled organism to live (DNA) must also be complete, as must be the assembly system (RNA). Both the structure and the information and material (proteins) that build and rebuild the structure must be complete simultaneously. It is not even a question as to whether the organism can live long enough to reproduce; it cannot exist at all unless it is fully formed. Because Jesus has always existed and because He is the Creator, we have the answer to the mystery of life. His eternality is thus a powerful encouragement to His people, for Jesus Himself provides certainty about the large (cosmic) and little (cellular) questions that any of us might have.
