Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
“The Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) has one surprising chapter, Revelation 4. Jesus is not mentioned here! Chapter and verse divisions are man-made as a way to help us find our way through the Bible. Thus, the emphasis on holiness (verse 8 – “Holy, holy, holy”) is not limited to God the Father (verse 3 – “One sat on the throne”) and God the Holy Spirit (verse 5 – “the seven Spirits of God,” a description which is not numerical but indicative of the completeness and fullness of the Spirit). Certainly Jesus, God the Son, is likewise holy, as is specifically stated in Revelation 3:7: “These things saith He [Who] is holy, He [Who] is true, He [Who] hath the key of David, He [Who] openeth, and no man shutteth; and shutteth, and no man openeth.” This holiness means that Jesus is only good, is separate from evil, is not even slightly attracted to evil, and takes joy in what is right and pure. We can be certain, then, that our Savior will always lead us into His “more excellent way” (I Corinthians 12:31) and walk with us there, never to fail nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).
