Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
The aggressive demonic activity of Revelation 9 is consistent with the antagonistic nature of demons at all times. As we have studied recently, Christians cannot be demon-possessed, but we can and will be attacked. These assaults are predicted in Ephesians 6:10-12: “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand, against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” These enemies are crafty and powerful, but the promise of God is that we can “stand” against any onslaught. We will return to “the whole armour of God” in a few days. For now, let us appreciate both the clear warnings of our good God and the certain promises that He graciously grants to us. If He says that we can “stand,” we can “stand”!
