Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
The end of Revelation 19:10 uses an expression that could easily be misunderstood: ““And I [John] fell at his [the angel’s] feet to worship him. And he said unto me, ‘See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.’” When some see “the spirit of prophecy,” they unfortunately think of unintelligible utterances. The context is clear: the core of prophecy is the revelation of Jesus as Savior. As one esteemed Scriptural scholar stated, “Christ is not only the major theme of the Scriptures but also the central theme of prophecy.” Just as Jesus perfectly fulfilled the Old Testament (Matthew 5:17-18), He will fulfill the remaining New Testament prophecies – including the details of the book of Revelation. It is unwise to go outside the pages of the Bible for words from our Savior, for outside Scripture is the current and comfortable domain of Satan, “the prince of this world” (John 12:31; 14:30; 16:11). We have the blessed and rich Word of God to fully instruct us in all things (II Timothy 3:16-17) including salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. In fact, it is the purpose of God the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth about Jesus so that we call upon Him as Savior (John 16:13-15). This is “the spirit of prophecy.”
