Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Revelation 19:5 advances the emphasis on praise found in the previous four verses: “And a voice came out of the throne, saying, ‘Praise our God, all ye His servants, and ye that fear Him, both small and great.’” The verb tense of “praise” is present progressive and points to a continuing act. “Keep on praising” is a helpful translation (and this kind command is immediately obeyed in verse 6). Because God is infinite, we can never overpraise Him. His “salvation” is everlasting; His “glory” is unending; His “honour” is absolute; His “power” is unlimited. He is infinite in all of His characteristics (often called perfections): immutability, omnipresence, omniscience, love, holiness, righteousness, justice, mercy, grace, and all others. Thus, there will never be a shortage of compelling reasons to praise God. Because He is also eternal, there will never be a time when our praise will not be appropriate. Let us be a people of praise. Let us “Keep on praising our God.”
