Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
“The Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) is clear: Jesus is coming again. He promises, “Behold, I come quickly” (22:7, 12, 20). As we have seen in our recent studies, He will take His Church to be with Him in what we call the Rapture. Later, He will set foot on the Mount of Olives as predicted in Zechariah 14:4: “His feet shall stand in that day upon the Mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east.” Even though we will be in heaven at that time, we should be deeply interested in the specific prophecies of the entire chapter of Zechariah 14. (I hope that you will read it). We should care about other people, and this passage confirms that Jesus will protect the Jewish people (verses 1-3). Their Messiah will come to them again, and this time they will welcome Him (Romans 11:26). We rejoice to think of the many that will be eternally saved at that time. Our Savior is good, fair, and just. At the darkest moment in the history of the Jewish people, He will come right to them to intervene mightily. Yes, Jesus always keeps His promises, and He always does what is right. He does the right thing at the right time. Do we believe that He works in this way? If not, we are questioning His goodness and attacking His character. Instead, let us remember that God keeps all of His promises, and let us rejoice that even at the darkest moment of evil’s ascendancy He will descend and be victorious.
