Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
We have spent more than two years together studying the book of Revelation. If these relatively short devotions were placed together, they would likely constitute a decent-sized book. Moving away from this “Revelation of Jesus Christ” (1:1) is, for me, a bit like saying good-bye to an old friend, not knowing if we will see each other for a period of time. However, we are told in James 1:21 that this old friend goes with us: “Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.” This verse tells us that God’s Word becomes implanted in us as we study it. We may not recall every detail (I certainly do not), but we are strengthened: “Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand” (Revelation 1:3). We have certainly learned that this Word “which is able to save your souls” directs us to Jesus Christ for “salvation” (Revelation 7:10; 12:10; 19:1). He is the only Savior. May each one of us be sure today that we have called upon Him for the eternal life that He freely offers.
