Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
As we studied yesterday, Revelation 8:2-6 explains the seeming silence of our Savior to His “saints” (verse 3) over the centuries. The fact that there is angelic involvement in prayer (“the smoke of the incense which came with the prayers of the saints, ascended up before God out of the angel’s hand” – verse 4) should remind us how important prayer is to Him. Even greater, of course, is His direct engagement with us through prayer. Hebrews 7:25 says of Jesus, “Wherefore He is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by Him, seeing He ever liveth to make intercession for them.” Note the word “ever” (and also “evermore” in Hebrews 7:28): it is not just sometimes that Jesus performs this high-priestly function of “intercession.” Moment by moment, consistently and constantly, our Savior is intent upon our prayers. His blessed continuance is an ongoing reminder of His persistence on our behalf.
