Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Jesus chose to become poor so that He could then choose to make us rich (II Corinthians 8:9), especially with spiritual blessings (Ephesians 1:3). We have briefly considered just some of this richness: a place in the family of God, election, adoption, acceptance, redemption, wisdom, revelation of God’s will, assurance of eternal life, an inheritance, God the Holy Spirit indwelling us, real purpose, and genuine fellowship. To this partial list of blessings let us hasten to add heaven. Every glimpse of heaven in Scripture is a reminder that Jesus not only will welcome us into His home but also will make it our home. We will not be guests; no, we will be residents. Jesus specifically said in John 14:2: “I go to prepare a place for you.” Let us remember that our Savior left His rightful place and became poor to offer us His riches, including a residence in heaven. We are truly rich.
