Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
On the first Sunday of Advent, I preached a sermon entitled “Christmas: A Season of Prayer.” The first point provided an example of the seeming silence of God that we have been considering from Revelation 8:2-6. In Genesis 49:10, Jacob prophetically prayed that from his son Judah’s line would come “Shiloh,” a Messianic title meaning “the One Who brings peace.” Obviously, Jacob and Judah did not live to see the answer to this prayer, for Jesus Christ was born more than 1800 years after it was uttered. Still, though, this short prayer became a part of “the prayers of all saints” (Revelation 8:3) and part of the miracle of our Savior’s birth. May we continue to pray as God directs us individually. May we also pray together for the Second Advent of our Savior: “Even so, come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20).
