Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
As we considered yesterday, “God Almighty” (Revelation 16:14) is in complete control, even at the end of the Tribulation when evil will be rampant. In verse 15, God affirms, “Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.” Two thoughts come immediately to mind. First, while Satan and his willing minions think that they are just about to emerge victorious over Israel, God the Son, Jesus Christ, is preparing to intervene directly by coming to earth again. Even though His Second Coming is clearly predicted in Scripture, His opponents will be surprised when He returns. Their perception of their power will blind them to reality: He will “come as a thief” upon them – unexpected and unwanted. Second, in the midst of the terror of this time, God speaks of blessing. His return will rescue many whom Satan seeks to exterminate (including many in Israel). This sudden and spectacular deliverance will be a blessing indeed. Only our Savior God can pour out His goodness in the worst of times – then, but also right now in our difficulties.
