Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Probably the part of humility that is the hardest to accept is submission to authority. Of course, much authority in our lives is seriously flawed and tends to tyranny and totalitarianism. However, I Peter 2:21-25 specifically states that Jesus is to be our “example” (verse 21). The treatment of Jesus by both religious and political leaders was truly horrific, resulting in His undeserved death on the Cross. Yet, His extraordinary example is given to us in part “that ye should follow His steps.” Specific applications are then given to wives (I Peter 3:1-6) and to husbands (I Peter 3:7). Note the use of “likewise” in both verse 1 and verse 7; the Bible is drawing this direct connection between the humility of Jesus and what is expected of us. Ephesians 5:21 provides a powerful and pithy summation: “Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.” Who does that?! Jesus does, and we should do “likewise.”
