Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

As we saw yesterday, culture promotes the sensational, but Jesus repudiates that shallow worldly way by directing our attention to the only “sign” that is eternally significant – His death and resurrection (Matthew 12:38-40). In so doing, He shows us that steadiness is always better than the sensational. Unfortunately, because we are so easily led astray by our culture, we do not always value the right things. For example, I Corinthians 4:2 says, “Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” The world yawns and states, “That’s boring. Entertain me.” Sadly, the modern church has moved in the world’s direction and tried to become more exciting – that is, more entertaining. Yet, at our very core, we all yearn for stability and certainty – exactly what Jesus offers. We enjoy His faithfulness; let us then, as His stewards, be found faithful.
