Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

As we read yesterday, Jesus, God the Son, said in John 15:16, “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you.” Jesus chose me because I needed to be chosen. Furthermore, He chose me because He could see what I can be. Verse 16 goes on to tell us that we have been “ordained” (appointed) to “bring forth fruit.” My life in Christ has meaning, as does yours. He is creating something good, something everlastingly good (“remain” means to abide, to continue). His power begins to work in us, particularly, as the end of verse 16 clarifies, through prayer. Before Jesus chose me, I could not have anything to do with Him; now, I can have direct access to Him and personal communication with Him. All of this is leading to a place with Jesus (John 14:1-3). It is a prepared place, a place prepared by Jesus so that I will be with Him eternally. Jesus chose me because He could see what I can be and what I will be. The same is true for each believer in Jesus. Thank you, Lord, that Your choosing is so complete.
