Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

“For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). This self-declaration of Jesus Christ, God the Son, is at the heart of the Gospel message. As our Servant Savior, He became our perfect substitute and bore the full punishment of our sin. Thus, He can and does offer eternal salvation to anyone who trusts in Him. When we receive this free gift of life everlasting, the blessed work of Jesus does not end. Hebrews 2:11 provides this astonishing statement: “For both He [Who] sanctifieth and they who are sanctified: for which cause He is not ashamed to call them brethren.” The word “sanctified” means “set apart” or “made holy.” In theological terms, sanctification means that the righteousness of Christ Jesus is imputed to believers. Hebrews 10:14 states, “For by one offering He hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified,” telling us that this imputation is entirely the work of our Savior God and is thus a certainty. One result of this sanctification is truly surprising: “He is not ashamed to call them brethren.” Part of our sanctification, then, is that we have been set apart to be brothers of Jesus. Such is the power of our Savior.
