Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Because Jesus knows all things, He remembers who we are (Psalm 103:10-19, especially verse 14). He knows how limited we are. Thus, He remembers to remind us of what we need to know. For example, Psalm 63:5-7 says, “My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness; and my mouth shall praise Thee with joyful lips: when I remember Thee upon my bed, and meditate on Thee in the night watches. Because Thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of Thy wings will I rejoice.” The picture here is of worry that interferes with our nightly sleep, worry that is swept away as we remember that our Savior God has always been our “help”. Our lives are often darkened by sad shadows; how much better it is to rest securely “in the shadow of [God’s] wings”! We do not need to be reminded of the vexing problems that cause us to fret and fear, for they arrive unbidden. We do require reminders about God’s past and promised assistance. A good practice is to regularly revisit God’s great goodnesses to us over the years. If we will remember these many blessings, we will also remember that Jesus always remembers us.
