Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
In Mark 13:34-37, Jesus’ parable reveals that He is a worker: “For the Son of man is as a man taking a far journey, who left his house, and gave authority to his servants, and to every man his work, and commanded the porter to watch. Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: lest suddenly he find you sleeping. And what I say unto you I say unto all, ‘Watch.’” The “house” is a symbol of Jesus’ spiritual family and represents His earthly ministry. However, He does not stop working on His “far journey.” For example, He said, “I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:2c); He is still building, still working. Of course, this labor is not hard for Him, as ours often is. He is, though, ever active on our behalf now and will be forever: “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto Myself; that where I am, there ye may be also” (John 14:3). As we await that promised face-to-face meeting with our Savior God (I Corinthians 13:12), He will keep working to benefit us: “He ever liveth to make intercession for them [all believers]” (Hebrews 7:25b).Jesus is loyal in His labor, never decreasing His intensity nor diminishing His lavish love. May we increase in our appreciation of Him as a worker and of His ongoing work.
