Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
We do not usually know exactly what Jesus will do today, but we certainly can depend on Him to act in accordance with His sterling character. We know, for example, that He will love us today – and tomorrow, and for all of the tomorrows to come. Romans 8:1 states, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.” To be “in Christ Jesus” is to trust in Him alone for salvation. When we place our faith in Jesus, we no longer are under “condemnation.” “No condemnation” – is that love? If I should say, “I do not condemn you,” that is not really love. However, with God, it is love, for the combination of His holiness and our sinfulness demands condemnation. Yet, that is not what we receive. Instead, we have the promise of unwavering love: “For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present [today!], nor things to come [tomorrow!], nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 8:38-39). Whatever else happens this day, we can be sure that our Savior will still be loving us.
