Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Mark 5:22-24 introduces us to a desperate father: “And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw Him, he fell at His feet, and besought Him greatly, saying, ‘My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray Thee, come and lay Thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.’ And Jesus went with him; and much people followed Him, and thronged Him.” Jesus immediately responds to this humanly hopeless situation. This real-life scenario pictures each one of us and our desperate need for forgiveness and eternal salvation. Romans 3:10 states, “As it is written, ‘There is none righteous, no, not one.’” This absolute assessment of mankind leads to the sad conclusion of Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” Romans 6:23 presents both the worst and best of news: “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” I Corinthians 15 focuses on the centrality of the resurrection of Jesus to our faith. Verse 19 points out, “If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable”; in other words, if Jesus is not resurrected, then we are helpless and hopeless in regards to everlasting life in heaven. However, verse 20 affirms, “But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept.” Each one of us has the opportunity to turn to Jesus and be certain of the salvation that He freely offers and readily provides. Jesus said, “There is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth” (Luke 15:10). May each one of us be sure of this personal, eternal, and joyful salvation by trusting in Jesus Christ.
