Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Why is it so hard for people to repent (Revelation 9:20-21)? There are perhaps as many excuses as there are unrepentant people. Some want to have as much fun as possible before thinking about Jesus. However, I do not know anyone who has more fun than I have. I find humor in almost everything. My laughter at my limitations is frequent – and it reminds me of the unlimited nature of God. I have never even thought, “I’m bored,” let alone said it. I can always find something worthwhile and fulfilling to do – and I am then reminded of the constant and infinite work of God, work that is always perfect, unlike mine! Too many folks try to create an artificial environment, control it, and call it fun. Alcohol and drug abuse, social media, promiscuity, our entertainment culture – these are pathetic efforts at fun. Dr. Harold Duff once said, “An excuse is the skin of a reason stuffed with a lie.” Let us think clearly and see life as it really is. Let us recognize our need for a Savior now, not at some future time that we might not have. Really, we have no excuse not to repent.
