Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
The hardest part of our lives is our struggle with sin. John 8:1-11 makes it clear that Jesus understands how difficult this battle is and how damaging sin is to us. The woman in this passage had already been shamed, was already carrying in her very being the knowledge of her failure, and already knew that the rest of her life was going to be harder because of what she had chosen to do. Sin always hurts, but Jesus shows us a different way to deal with it. Jesus did not condemn this woman to death, but He also did not just brush aside the reality. “Go, and sin no more.” These wise words were spoken to a woman who needed forgiveness; thus, they are spoken to each one of us. Through faith in Jesus, God the Son, we are forgiven; and through the power of God the Holy Spirit and of the Word of God, we can resist sin. All of us can “go, and sin no more” – all because Jesus understands how hard is our human struggle with horrible sin.
