Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Jesus is by nature creative, as John 1:1-5 expounds. His creation of light (Genesis 1:3) provides the necessary energy of the universe and causes a pleasing contrast to physical darkness. Furthermore, the use of light in Scripture points us to moral and spiritual truth. Jesus is the “light of men” (verse 4). Even a small light shows up strongly in a background of darkness; the light of Jesus is far more powerful, for “the light shineth in darkness, and the darkness comprehended it not [the darkness did not overcome the light]” (verse 5). When we make wrong moral choices, we cannot claim that we did not know the difference between good and bad, for we are never unilluminated. Furthermore, when Jesus stated “I am the Light of the World” (John 8:12; 9:5), He was making an absolute claim of full deity which cannot be ignored. Let us then “walk in the light, as He is in the light” (I John1:7).
