Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

As we finish our brief study of Jesus finishing what He starts, we return to Hebrews 12:2, where we are told to be “looking unto Jesus the Author and Finisher of our faith.” We are to look to Him for salvation, for His continued work in our lives here, and for His return. In II Timothy 4:6-8, we find the aging Apostle Paul aware of his imminent death by martyrdom. “I have finished my course,” he writes in verse 7. Yet, that was not his end; verse 8 begins with “Henceforth.” Paul knew that, for each believer, finishing here is just a beginning there, in heaven. May our full faith be in Jesus, Who is both “Author” and “Finisher.” May we also be patient with each other now, for we are not quite finished yet.
