Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Let us take a few more minutes to consider the implications of Revelation 19:16: “And He hath on His vesture and on His thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.” The character of our Savior God is perfect and immutable. Regardless of what anyone thinks, says, or does, Jesus is who He is. The only question, then, is how we respond to His eternal Kingship and Lordship. I remember reading many years ago of a pastor (sorry, I cannot recall his name) who said, “We cannot say, ‘No, Lord.’” If we accept the truth of Jesus’ unlimited power and everlasting reign, we cannot reasonably refuse to do what He requires of us. “No” and “Lord” are simply two words that do not belong together. “Yes, Lord” – that is the right response. May we humbly acknowledge and appreciate that Jesus is “KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.”
