Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
As we study “the unsearchable riches of Christ” (Ephesians 3:8), we recognize that Jesus is rich in all ways. In Ephesians 1:18, Paul speaks of “the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of His calling, and what [is] the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.” In Ephesians 3:16, he prays the following: “That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might by His Spirit in the inner man.” Both of these verses reference the “glory” of God. When we consider the glory of God, we struggle a bit; for He is infinite, and we are limited. “Glory” is somewhat synonymous with “majesty” (II Peter 12:16; Jude 25). Both words mean the totality of Who God is, the sum of His attributes. Because Jesus is completely holy, theologians rightly call His attributes “perfections” to distinguish them from our decidedly imperfect characteristics. Thus, we find that the very nature of our Savior God is unsearchably rich. Next week, we will search out the unsearchable in some detail. For now, let us rejoice that our glorious and majestic Lord is perfect in all of His ways.
