Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
The ruthless assaults of Satan and the demons (Revelation 9) require that each Christian avail himself of “the whole armour of God” (Ephesians 6:13). This spiritual armor includes “the helmet of salvation” (verse 17), which especially protects our minds from Satan’s devious devices. As we have studied recently, Satan is the dictator of discouragement, but “the helmet of salvation” shields us. This piece of protection is further called “an helmet, the hope of salvation” in I Thessalonians 5:8. This certainty of eternal life in heaven is echoed in Romans 13:11b: “Now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.” All of us can see the logic of this Scriptural statement. Either through death or through the return of Jesus, today brings us one day closer to the fullness of our salvation. With the Apostle John, may our simple and sincere prayer be, “Even so, come, Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20b).
