Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
The parable of the mustard seed is found in Mark 4:30-32: “And He said, ‘Whereunto shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what comparison shall we compare it? It is like a grain of mustard seed, which, when it is sown in the earth is less than all the seeds that be in the earth: but when it is sown, it groweth up, and becometh greater than all herbs, and shooteth out great branches; so that the fowls of the air may lodge under the shadow of it.’” There is no doubt that each Christian is part of the fulfillment of the promise of this parable, for each one of us is part of this predicted growth of the Church from its small beginnings. Our place in this prophetic plan of God does not end with our salvation, though. Galatians 6:7b establishes this principle: “Whatsoever a man soweth, that shall be also reap.” Thus, any work that we do for our Savior matters. We are called to be consistently faithful. Someday, maybe today, maybe tomorrow, maybe after we are gone from this earth, the little seed that we have planted will grow into something of eternal significance.
