Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

In Revelation 19:13b, we read the following about Jesus: “And His name is called The Word of God.” “Word” translates the Greek logos, which focuses not on the written word but on the thought behind language and the full expression thereof. Elsewhere in Scripture, we find, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God” (John 1:1-2). Thus, we learn that God is eternal and expressive, and that Jesus is fully God. John 1:14 says of Jesus, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” We glean from this verse many things, including that Jesus possessed full humanity while retaining His full divinity (“His glory”). In I John 1:1, Jesus is called “the Word of life,” indicating that He is the Creator of life and that He offers new, eternal life to anyone who trusts in Him. I John 5:7 teaches that God is Triune: “For there are three that bear witness in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.” This verse confirms that the Word is God the Son. Just from these few references, we can see that Jesus does fully express Who God is. Of course He does, for He is fully God.
