Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
The disquieting reality of demonic warfare (Revelation 9) cannot be ignored by Christians. If we reject the clear warnings of Scripture, we will not be able to “stand” (Ephesians 6:14). We need to have our “feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace” (Ephesians 6:15). We are to be mobile in our faith. I have long meditated upon Psalm 119:32: “I will run the way of Thy commandments, when Thou shalt enlarge my heart.” We are not to run toward or away from Satan (James 4:7); we “stand” against him and the demons. However, we are to “run the way” of God’s kind commands. The picture is one of enthusiasm and energy: we should not have to drag our feet to worship, to prayer, to God’s Word. The “gospel of peace” is the good news of God’s best to each one of us. We should be eager for His great goodnesses. With our “feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace,” let us “run” to “stand” with our Savior.
