Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Yesterday, we considered the fact that Jesus never stops His work of salvation; for our salvation is eternal, and we are eternally secure in it and in Him. Hebrews 13:8 says of Jesus that He is “the same yesterday, and today, and for ever.” Thus, Jesus is immutable; that is, He does not change. We can rely on Him now and forever. Some, though, read such statements about the unchanging character of our Savior God and wonder if heaven might be a tad boring. Is it possible that each moment in heaven will be the same as the last? The answer must be a resounding “No!” We have seen from Scripture this week that God is astonishingly creative in all that He does, from the creation of time, space, energy, matter, and man to the provision of salvation. Thus, to say that He does not change means that He will continue to be creative in ways that we cannot even imagine now. Add to this certainty the fact that we will be changed when we enter heaven (I Corinthians 15:51), and there is no doubt that we will fully enjoy each moment in heaven and fully appreciate the eternally creative mind of God.
