Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Before we move to a different subject, let us return to the “new song” of Revelation 5:9 that proclaims that Jesus is “worthy.” I have one final and simple thought about music as part of our worship. When we sing, we are singing together. Some have strong voices; others are quieter. Some sing parts; others follow the basic melody. We have different musical tastes and different favorite songs. However, we are engaged in a specific form of worship individually and corporately. Our shared voices echo our shared faith and remind us that we will join with many believers and angels in musical worship of our Savior God. Revelation 5:13 says, “Every creature [being] which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, ‘Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto Him [Who] sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.’” Our music in church now is thus a preparation for our eternal worship of our “worthy” Lord.
