Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Jesus is light, giving us spiritual illumination and direction. Because He fulfills the entire Old Testament (Matthew 5:17-18), Jesus fulfills Malachi 4:2: “But unto you that fear My name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in His wings.” This prophetic passage is applied to Jesus in Luke 1:78-79: “The dayspring [sun rising] from on high hath visited us to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.” This “peace” is God’s best for us and is as readily available to us as it was to those who saw and heard Jesus. II Peter 1:19 says, “We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts.” Yes, the light of Jesus illuminates the darkest of all places – the human soul, my human soul.
