Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus
Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)
Jesus gives His disciples hope, including the hope of grace (Colossians 1:3-6) and “the hope of the Gospel” (Colossians 1:23). Paul adds “the hope of glory” in Colossians 1:27. This “hope of glory” is “Christ in you.” “Glory” points us to heaven, which Paul specifically referenced in verse 5. The certainty of heaven is based upon the character of Jesus Christ. Jesus had been in heaven for all eternity until He came to earth to die for our sins. Then, He went back (Acts 1:9-11) to prepare heaven for our arrival (John 14:1-6). No one knows more about heaven than Jesus, and He intends to give this home to us (verse 6 – “grace”!). This hope of heaven is the certainty of eternity. The hope of grace, the hope of the Gospel, the hope of glory – these are everlastingly real.
