Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Before we move to a different subject from Revelation 5, let us consider one more thought about the worthiness of Jesus Christ: “Thou art worthy” (verse 9), and “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain” (verse 12). Had Jesus not died on the Cross, He would still be worthy, for He is eternally divine and thus inherently good and great. However, since Jesus did die for our sins, He is specifically worthy to be praised as our Redeemer and to be personally thanked for our individual redemption. This redemption is so thorough (as is everything that Jesus does) that He “hast made us unto our God kings and priests” (verse 10). The dominion that mankind lost due to sin will be restored in eternity. Jesus has all authority but will delegate responsibility to His people. Because we will be freed from our sin nature, we will then be able to exercise appropriate dominion. Jesus does all things well and completely, and He will not be thwarted in His all-encompassing redemption.
