Jaw-dropping Jewels about Jesus

Rarely does Jesus, God the Son, do exactly what we expect of Him. It seems odd that He so frequently surprises us, given that He never changes. Hebrews 13:8 makes this absolute statement: “Jesus the same yesterday, and today, and forever.” Still, though He is blessedly consistent in His goodness, Jesus does unforeseen things. Even when He does what is expected, He does not always do it in the way that we anticipate. Let us join with Jesus on a jaw-dropping journey. (I will be using this opening paragraph for each of the brief messages in this series. The following material will change daily.)

Revelation 1:8 states, “’I am Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the Ending,’ saith the Lord, ‘[Who] is, and [Who] was, and [Who] is to come, the Almighty.’” Jesus is eternal and thus has always existed in the past, as we have seen by comparing 1:1 and John 1:1-3. Colossians 1:16 confirms, “For by Him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by Him, and for Him.” As we saw yesterday, evolution is both a Biblical and a scientific absurdity. Why then do so many scientists refuse to acknowledge the patently obvious scientific truth of creationism? The answer should convict all of us – pride. It is the last part of Colossians 1:16 that causes a rejection of truth: everything was created “for Him.” Mankind naturally (sin-naturally) bristles at the idea that anyone could be superior to us. Sinful man rebels against the idea that God “hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created” (Revelation 4:11). The thoughtful Christian instead humbly rejoices that Jesus finds “pleasure” in him! Why does pride within the scientific community expand nearly as fast as their proposed “Big Bang” hypothesis? The answer is found in part in Revelation 1:12-18. In response to this grand revelation of the Savior, the Apostle John “fell at His feet” (verse 17) to worship Him. However, some will refuse to bow down because they see themselves as mankind’s saviors (like Nietzche’s supermen). Their delusion is so deep that they will prefer to fall down under the destructive weight of “mountains and rocks” (Revelation 6:15-17). The sad irony of strict materialists being destroyed by material is a tragic warning to each one of us of the eternal danger of irrational pride.
